2013 Boating Accident Statistical Report

Today the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission published its 2013 Boating Accident Statistical Report.  The 2013 Boating Accident Statistical Report indicates there were sixty-two fatalities caused by a boating related accident in Florida in 2013.  Drowning is reported as the leading cause of death. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission also reports there have been eleven fatalities caused by a boating related accident in Florida so far this year.  The 2013 Boating Accident Statistical Report stresses the importance of boating safety, including more careful boat operation and the use of life jackets. Florida Senate Unanimously Passes Parasailing Regulation Bill

This week the Florida Senate unanimously passed Senate Bill 320 (2014), which would regulate the parasailing industry.  Parasailing is a water sport in which people wear a parachute and a harness attached to and towed by a motorboat.  Parasailing is a popular water sport offered to tourists on many of Florida’s beaches.  Unfortunately, the potential dangers of this sport have been highlighted by several catastrophic parasailing accidents in recent years.  Parasailing accidents usually result in severe personal injury or wrongful death.  An identical bill is working its way through the Florida House of Representatives....
